Rocky Mountain National Park and Relaxation At Last

Press play!

Basic Soul Unit - Soulspeak (Shed Remix) - Techno

October was a little crazier than the previous months I've had since moving here, comparatively speaking. In the first week, out of the blue, I was let go from the job that brought me out here. So I've spent the month feverishly looking for new gig. And many thanks to C.J, Keith, and Danny from keeping me from going a little nuts. With a new official offer letter signed and a new job starting soon, I felt I could relax enough the last couple days of my unemployment and get out a bit.

To do just that, I packed a bunch of techno and took a quick drive out to Rocky Mountain National Park. The track you're listening to was one of the tracks I stumbled on early in the day and it really defined the mood of the day; the subtle melody that fades in at about 1:50 really just set the tone. I took the road out to Bear Lake and walked the 3/4 mile trail on along the water. Being a Wednesday morning, I had the whole place to myself.

The route was intended to be as much fun as the destination. On the way home, I took Colorado-7 south out of Estes Park and continued on to Colorado-72, aka Peak to Peak Highway. If you ever have the chance to take this route, it's really worth the trip. The road is windy, narrow in parts, and exciting to drive; you pass Long's Peak, Twin Sisters Peak, Meeker Peak, and some others. I imagine that it's treacherous in the winter, so maybe keep that in mind. Taking Rt-119 from Nederland to Boulder is also pretty exciting.
